CIVIS is News: joining the Rhythm of Revolution in Glasgow CIVIS is News: joining the Rhythm of Revolution in Glasgow ============================================================ Communication and Dissemination 31 august 2026 As Europe's international higher education community explored new ways of learning, collaborating and connecting across borders, CIVIS will brought its own contribution to the "Rhythm of Revolution" at the [European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference and Exhibition 2026, from 8-11 of September, in Glasgow](https://www.eaie.org/events/glasgow.html). Through four sessions and a dedicated booth, CIVIS showcased the impact of European Universities alliances. Under the theme "CIVIS is News", the alliance hosted a dedicated booth throughout the conference, offering a meeting point for colleagues, partners and stakeholders interested in the evolving landscape of European Universities alliances. The event also provided an opportunity to reconnect with the [FOREU4ALL community of practice](https://www.foreu4all.eu/), strengthen existing collaborations and engage with the wider international higher education community. Showcasing impact in international education -------------------------------------------- ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/eaie26-4.jpg)Photo: CIVIS Communication archiveAt EAIE 2026, CIVIS colleagues and partners contributed to a series of sessions highlighting key dimensions of the alliance's work, from global engagement and joint education initiatives to innovative partnership models and the future of European degrees. ### Applying for a joint European degree label: from policy ambition to institutional practice As discussions around the future of European higher education continue to gather pace, CIVIS contributed to a dedicated workshop on the implementation of the Joint European Degree Label. Entitled *"Applying for a joint European degree label: A practical workshop for (alliances of) higher education institutions"*, the half-day session will provide participants with practical guidance on navigating the application process and preparing institutions for the label's rollout. Led by experts involved in developing the implementation guidelines, the workshop will combined policy insights with hands-on exercises and peer learning. Participants explored the criteria associated with the label, assessed institutional readiness, and worked through practical case studies designed to support future applications. The session reflected the growing importance of joint programmes and shared quality assurance mechanisms in advancing deeper transnational cooperation across the European Higher Education Area. The workshop was facilitated by Nadia Manzoni, **Alexandru Carțiș, Head of the CIVIS Education Unit**, and Yann-Mael Bideau (EC), alongside experts directly involved in the development and rollout of the European Degree Label framework. It provided a unique opportunity for alliance representatives, higher education institutions and quality assurance specialists to engage with one of the most significant policy developments shaping the future of European higher education. 8 September 2026, 09:00 – 12:30 BST Room: Dochart 1, SEC Centre, Level 1 ### African Universities in a European University Alliance: the CIVIS Case Through an award-winning poster presentation, selected as one of the top three of the conference, CIVIS shared insights from its long-standing collaboration with African partner universities, which became [Associate Members of the alliance in 2024.](https://civis.eu/ro/discover-civis-alliance/associate-members-universities-in-africa) The poster session, which attracted the attention of an extended crowd, explored the benefits and challenges of a comprehensive, institution-wide partnership model that encompasses education, research, civic engagement, governance, funding and capacity strengthening activities. CIVIS Case Study. A second poster presentation, equally recognised as best-poster durign the conference, focused on the strategic value of including partners from countries outside the Erasmus+ framework, using the experiences of the University of Lausanne and the University of Glasgow within CIVIS as a case study. Participants gained practical insights into managing complex institutional collaboration and developing joint educational offers across borders. Under the banner "CIVIS is News", the booth featured stories, achievements and opportunities emerging from the alliance's activities, while creating space for dialogue with partner institutions, policymakers and higher education professionals. More than an exhibition space, the booth served as a hub for conversations about the future of higher education, offering opportunities to exchange ideas, develop new connections and learn more about CIVIS initiatives across education, research and civic engagement. Alliances at the centre in Glasgow ---------------------------------- Being in Glasgow, home of one of our member Universities allowed the CIVIS community to join colleagues for the celebration of the UofG’s 575th anniversary and specifically their Partner’s Days, as well as the event **European University Alliances: opportunities with Erasmus+**, organised by the British Council.
